Life’s about the little moments.
It’s really that simple. But surprisingly hard to remember. It’s easy to keep looking ahead: to graduation, to a new job, a promotion, vacation, or when the kids are older.
There’s nothing wrong with looking forward. It means we believe the best is yet to come.
But don’t let that longing for “what’s next” pull your attention away from what’s now.
Our biggest moments, the mountaintops, are built on the foundation of countless small ones. The mundane. The normal days. The same old, same old.
Most of them won’t be memorable. But “not memorable” doesn’t mean “not important.”
Sure, we’ll remember the big ones: holidays, birthdays, graduations, weddings. But those moments stand on the shoulders of thousands of smaller ones. Tiny deposits, compounding over time.
Relationships are a lot like financial markets. “Time in the market is better than timing the market.”
Don’t try to time the market with your friendships. Don’t just show up for the big moments.
Invest consistently. Show up in the good times, and especially in the bad. Keep investing. It adds up. And it reinvests itself.
That’s the path to a rich life.
